VCU Women’s Soccer has been hard at work during this 2016 pre-season. All that hard work appears to be coming into fruition with a 1-0 victory at Longwood University on a sunny Friday afternoon against the Lancers in VCU’s lone exhibition match of the season.
The match’s only goal came off the boot of VCU freshman Alyssa Tallent. Tallent found the back of the net in the 49′ minute as the ball rolled her way in front of an open net inside the penalty area after a Black & Gold cross found the mark.
This victory over an in-state rival in Longwood may not count on VCU’s record but a win is better than a loss as the Rams count down the days until opening day.
VCU opens up the 2016-17 season in Harrisonburg, VA as they compete in the JMU Invitational. The Rams will take on Northwestern on Friday, August 19th followed by Arkansas on Sunday, August 21st.
The Rams will have to wait until September 2nd to play at Sports Backers Stadium in their home opener against Sacred Heart in the VCU Invitational.
