A small break from Atlantic 10 action for VCU Volleyball as they took on Norfolk State Tuesday evening. The Spartans aimed to derail the Rams win streak; however, the Black & Gold defused the charge inside the Siegel Center.
VCU Volleyball used their height advantage early and often in Set 1. With Rams like Julia Adler, Tori Baldwin and Vicky Giommarini at their disposal, VCU set out to a quick killing advantage. Norfolk State attempted short serves and chipping the ball but to no true advantage over the Rams. The Spartans also struggled with eight attacking errors as the Black & Gold cruised to a 25-13 win in Set 1.
More of the same was shown in Set 2. Julia Adler led the Black & Gold charge at the net collecting five kills alongside Jasmin Sneed with seven. The duo of Adler and Sneed also produced a pair of combo blocks to further VCU’s advantage over Norfolk State. With limited action from Rebekah Strange, VCU looked to Madalon Simpson picking up the digs and she did not disappoint with 13. Tyler Sroufe put Set 2 out of reach with three service aces and Alica Kandler added an extra in VCU’s 25-13 victory.
In Set 3, VCU kept attacking thanks to Giommarini leading the team with 8 kills. Gina Tuzzolo added seven more while Norfolk State continued a trail of attacking errors with 23 on the night. Head Coach Jody Rogers gave some of her starters a rest day allowing Dajah Ard, Diamond Boxley, and CeCe Madison making the most out of their minutes. In the end, VCU grabbed their seventh 3-0 sweep of the season with a 25-15 win in Set 3 over Norfolk State.
VCU Volleyball improves to 16-10 on the year and increases their current winning streak to three. The Rams are now 8-2 when playing at Siegel Center this season.
Next up for VCU is Fordham in an Atlantic 10 match on Friday, October 28th at 7 PM inside the Siegel Center followed by Senior Day on Sunday, October 30th at 1pm vs Rhode Island.
