Hunters Honor: Evans, Jenkins, Rhoades Honored with A-10 Awards

The Atlantic 10 Conference announced their 2018-19 Men’s Basketball End-Of-Year awards on Tuesday. VCU was represented by Marcus Evans, De’Riante Jenkins, and Head Coach Mike Rhoades on the award list.

Coach Rhoades: A-10 Coach Of The Year

VCU Head Coach Mike Rhoades was named the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year. Coach Rhoades led VCU to a 25-6 overall record and tied the Rams best conference performance in school history at 16-2. VCU was picked seventh in the A-10 preseason poll and the Rams ended up winning the Atlantic 10 regular season outright under Rhoades.

This is the first VCU coach to win a conference Coach of the Year honor since Anthony Grant won CAA Coach of the Year in 2007.

Marcus Evans: A-10 First Team & All-Academic

Evans was selected to the Atlantic 10’s First Team & All-Academic Team. After two Achilles’ tendon surgeries, Evans returned to the court this season to lead VCU in scoring (14.2 PPG), assists (3.3 APG), and steals (1.9 SPG) In A-10 Play, Evans finished 8th in scoring (14.9 PPG, 269 Points).

De’Riante Jenkins: A-10 Third Team

Jenkins was honored by the Atlantic 10 with an A-10 Third Team selection. The VCU junior led the Rams from three with 58 three-pointers this season. while averaging 11.3 PPG. Jenkins was third in assists for VCU with 59 on the season.

The Hunt heads to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York for the Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Tournament. #1 VCU will take on the winner of Thursday’s round 2 game between Rhode Island vs. La Salle. The Rams take the court on Friday, March 15th at Noon in the A-10 Quarterfinal on NBC Sports Network.

Mark graduated from VCU in 2014 with a major in Criminal Justice and a minor in Psychology. He started as a fan of the Black & Gold in the stands his freshman year. Mark was known as "Kazie" for his charismatic fandom with the VCU's student organization the Rowdy Rams. While at VCU he gained experience in sports media with WVCW on a sports radio show called Rowdy Radio. Following graduation, Mark continued crafting his social media skills with the Richmond Kickers while also handling VCU coverage. He is a true fan of the Rams and vocally passionate on and off camera. After the final whistle, you can probably find him at local RVA bar or brewery enjoying a drink and conversation.
