Rams with an A-10 Championship Double on the mind in the Empire State.

Tourney Time, #1 VCU Roams To The Bronx

The 2019 Atlantic 10 Baseball Tournament takes place from May 22-25 at Fordham University in Houlihan Park. VCU Baseball travels to the Bronx as the #1 seed after winning the A-10 Regular Season crown for the second time in school history.

Hard Work Rewarded

VCU finished the season with their 4th conference sweep in Fairfax against George Mason. The Rams clinched the A-10 title outright on Saturday with a 3-2 victory over the Patriots. VCU sat atop of the standings at 19-5 in A-10 play and 39-17 overall.

This was VCU’s second time taking home the A-10 Regular Season title. In 2017, VCU went 19-5 to win it and advanced to the A-10 Championship that season. Davidson exacted sweet revenge by defeating VCU twice to win the A-10 Tournament.

Revved Up For Tournament Play

Batting a .477 slugging average, VCU brings one of the most consistent hitting offenses up to New York. VCU leads the A-10 in hits (258), runs (189), and RBIs (170).

Alongside batting, VCU’s pitching is solid averaging a 2.81 ERA for 2nd in the Atlantic 10. Benjamin Dum (2.27, 2nd) and Connor Gillispie (2.58, 3rd) lead VCU’s pitching rotation into the top 5 of ERA for the conference. Gillispie stands tall on the mound with 108 strikeouts on the year.

Golden History

Historically the #1 seed swung their way to winning both the A-10 Regular Season and Tournament championships. Last season, Saint Louis won the regular season at 19-4 on their way to the Billikens’ fourth tournament win in school history. Over the past 12 seasons, the A-10 regular-season champ turned into A-10 tournament champ on 6 occasions.

VCU upset top-seed Rhode Island as a #2 seed to win their first A-10 Tournament in 2015. That year the Rams advanced to the NCAA Super Regional in Coral Gables, Florida before being eliminated by Miami.
