New head coach Beth O’Boyle wasted no time recruiting after joining the VCU Rams. Within 2 weeks she had her first official signed letter of intent from Junior College Freshman star Ashley Pegram. Who will be immediately eligible to play when she joins the team this fall. She also comes with 3 years of eligibility.
What’s really exciting is this is a homecoming for Ashley who is a 2013 graduate from Meadowbrook High School in Chesterfield, VA . Pegram led her team to a district championship and earned Central District Player of the Year honors before moving on to Junior College in Maryland.
During her year as a guard at Chesapeake Junior College Ashley continued to deliver results at NJCAA Division II level. A high scorer and also well rounded player she averaged 23.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. The Skipjacks finished the season with a 25-5 record and competed in the NJCAA National Quarterfinals.
Pegram was the only freshman named to the NJCAA All-America team. After all she did record 20 or more points in 21 games, with her best 41 points in their win over Allegany College of Maryland. We’re looking forward to seeing what she adds on the court in the 2014 -15 season.
