VCU faced their second non-ranked opponent seeking another victory after their first win of the 2015-2016 season and Coach Dave Giffard’s 50th win as head coach for the Rams on Friday. VCU took an early lead against the Jacksonville Dolphins and went on an aggressive attack following their early success. The Rams first goal of the night was the first of the season for #7 Luc Fatton. Fatton scored in the 13th minute of play giving the Rams an early 1-0 advantage. VCU kept attacking and was rewarded a few minutes later when #31 Jason McGlothern hit the back of the net with an assist from #12 Ivan Sakou. Then it was Rams on the attack as Jacksonville struggled to slow them down. After several more possessions and runs down the field VCU found the back of the net with a third goal from #10 Rafa Andrade Santos. It was a runaway lead as the Rams ended the half with a 3-0 lead.
During the first 45 minutes VCU took 6 shots with half of them on goal and each of those resulting in a point for the Rams. Jacksonville had 4 opportunities with just one on goal and none of them found the back of the net. Ram GK Pierre Gardan had 1 save and the VCU defense successfully kept the Dolphins off the board.
In the second half VCU came out with the same fire and looked to further extend their lead. They continued to fire at Jacksonsville with offensive attacks adding 5 attempts in the process. Despite 3 more shots on goal the Rams search another point was thwarted. The Dolphins added 4 attempts including 2 penalty kick opportunities (first from #7 Ivo Lima and second from #19 Martin Agredo) that resulted in 2 more saves from Gardan. Both teams held each other off with defense and neither would score in the final 45 minutes. This is the second victory and shut out for the Rams this weekend who will face 2 ranked teams in their next home games.
