The Docket: Week of 8/20/2018

Allo Hello Ram Fans and welcome to the Docket! Here you can find all the information about the upcoming GAMEDAYs featuring your Rams of Virginia Commonwealth University. This week is full of season openers, classics, and invitationals; Enough intro mumbo jumbo…let’s jump into the docket for the week of August 20th, 2018!

Field Hockey Rollin’ To The River

Speaking of season openers, VCU Field Hockey begins their season at the River Hawk Classic. The Rams join Bryant University and Hofstra University on a trip to UMass-Lowell for a pair of field hockey clashes. VCU will face-off with Hofstra on Friday and play either Bryant or UMass-Lowell the following Sunday.

VCU looks to build off their success from the prevision season. Field Hockey finished 14-6 overall which included a 6 game winning streak in September and a #3 seed in the Atlantic 10 tournament.

Friday, August 24th: VCU vs. Hofstra (@UMass-Lowell) at 3:30 PM

Sunday, August 26th: VCU vs. Bryant/UMass-Lowell, TBA

Kick-Off for Men’s Soccer Is Near

The final whistle was blown after Men’s Soccer finished their last exhibition of the season at Hartford. Now the Rams are focused on their first “official” match in their season opener against Georgia Southern on Friday. This match will kick-off a 4 match home-stand at Sports Backers for VCU with Radford awaiting a Sunday Funday duel.

Men’s Soccer finished last season at 12-7 overall and made it to the Atlantic 10 Championship Final only to fall just short of grasping the silverware against UMass. VCU was rewarded an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament where they fell to Butler in the second round.

Friday, August 24th: VCU vs. Georgia Southern at 5 PM, Sports Backers Stadium

Sunday, August 26th: VCU vs. Radford at 5 PM, Sports Backers Stadium (Kazie’s Match of The Week)

Women’s Soccer Working on a W

Sports Backers Stadium will be the place to be on Friday with a Soccer Futbol Double-Header! VCU Women’s Soccer will take the field after the Men’s Soccer match going up against High Point University. After a previous weekend mixed with defensive setbacks and golden heroics, Women’s Soccer looks for another good result on the pitch against the Panthers.

Volleyball With Another BIG Year?

Last season VCU Volleyball had everyone across the country talking. When you win 27 consecutive matches, finish the season at 30-3 overall, and capture your first ever Atlantic 10 championship…people start paying attention. Now here in 2018 after having that special of a season what is in store for the Black & Gold?

First stop lands the Rams at the N.C. State Invitational where VCU will take on the Wolfpack and Washington State to welcome in the new year. ACC, Pac-12, Atlantic 10…OH MY!

Friday, August 24th: VCU at N.C. State at 7 PM

Saturday, August 25th: VCU vs. Washington State at 4 PM

VCU Women’s Soccer had a rough start to their weekend against UNCW but struck gold over Charlotte thanks to the golden laces of Rachel Hardy. Hardy from 22 yards…GGOOOAAALLLLL!!! GOLLLAAZZZOOOO!!!!

Mark graduated from VCU in 2014 with a major in Criminal Justice and a minor in Psychology. He started as a fan of the Black & Gold in the stands his freshman year. Mark was known as "Kazie" for his charismatic fandom with the VCU's student organization the Rowdy Rams. While at VCU he gained experience in sports media with WVCW on a sports radio show called Rowdy Radio. Following graduation, Mark continued crafting his social media skills with the Richmond Kickers while also handling VCU coverage. He is a true fan of the Rams and vocally passionate on and off camera. After the final whistle, you can probably find him at local RVA bar or brewery enjoying a drink and conversation.
